Mastering Efficient Lighting In North Africa
MELINA project aims to develop new trainings in response to lighting growing market due to emerging LED technologies. These trainings aim to induce good practices, to reduce the energy consumption and limit its environmental impact. They will open the door to a still virgin professional sector and develop employment.
Objectives
The innovations of MELINA concern: • Academic teaching of lighting in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia • Adaptation of teaching content with stakeholders, companies and the labor market •The development of innovative pedagogical training methods with the students themselves • The development of Alumni associations which will spearhead the development of a national association of lighting professions
Outputs
• A set of 110 hours of teaching courses • Trained staff of 70 teachers within the 6 partners • Over 280 graduated students / year • 6 equipped higher education institutions (HEIs) and research institution (Ris), • Website, MOOC, Alumni associations • Partnership agreements for activities after lifetime of the project.

Impact
- Institutional level: Implementation of new trainings and pedagogical methods, strong links with companies for continuous matching of academic programs, increased employability of graduates. - National level: reinforced HEIs and company partnerships, policy for sectorial skills anticipation and matching, relevance of skills and research topics, reinforcement of lighting standards, promotion of energy efficient lighting equipment, protection of the market against low-end products, proper implementation of lighting projects in Maghreb countries. - Regional level: sharing of experiences, promotion of medium and long-term cooperation. - European level: development and promotion of long-term cooperation between the partners concerned leading to convergence in line with EU developments and standards.
